Stephan33 TS Rookie. When I play games, it easily go 55 degrees celcius i've clicked alt f4 when i reach Yes LMAO. This is with stock cooler? Don't know what games ran at but I'm guessing well over 60C.

Hell those temps you got there used to be my idle temps. Your temps are perfectly fine. Cause by the sounds of it, your running stock. Mictlantecuhtli TS Evangelist. Stephan33 said:. SpeedFan shows a logo of a fire when it's in 50 degrees. I just purchased and installed the same heat sink fan on my processor and I have to tell you, it lowered the chips temp by about 5 degrees celcius. Two things you have to remember with this cooler; it's MASSIVE, and if your side cover has an exhaust tunnel, it's going to have to go.

Also, be very careful of the fins on the unit. They are very sharp and you can cut yourself very easily. Also, make sure that you have an additional exhaust fan mounted on the back of the case or most of the hot air will just recirculate around inside the case. DO NOT use the thermal compound supplied with the unit.Menu Menu. Search Everywhere Threads This forum This thread.

WildViper Senior member. Feb 19, 0 Hi All, This has just recently started happening and am wondering what is going on?? I have the bios setup to shutdown around 85 degrees Cbut it continues past that. Anyhow, this problem occurs when I am doing a couple of things: 1. Only a couple of files gets it HOT!

Typical flv file size is between 5 megs to 50 megs. Thermaltake CPU fan that can run upto RPM it does when the temp is going high I have the Antec case that has the big fan on the top and two for the harddrives. AMD Cool n Quiet installed and running. Here is what I have done I have shut everything off, except for Antivirus, Firewall and Superantispyware running in background. Still temps get real hot. I have cleared all the dust, re-seated the CPU, opened up the case and put a fan there, besides the 5 fans running in system 1 cpu, 2 case fans, 2 Harddrive fans and one powersupply fan Itunes is installed but not running during these shutdowns.

No Overclocking whatsoever. Everything is running stock. All XP SP3 updates. Checked for virus, spyware, trojans on a regular basis. So what gives??????Forums New posts Search forums.

Is the heat affecting you? Joined Nov 10, Messages 1, 0. Yeah,i think the Tcase max is 65c. Joined Dec 18, Messages 7, 1. Joined Apr 8, Messages 1, 0. System Specs. Just don't go above 65C and everything will be A-OK. Keep it under 50C for overclocking purposes though. It takes probably like c to kill one. Joined May 4, Messages 0.

For overclocking, anything over 50C tends to cause instabilities, especially when going for large overclocks. It's not a matter of how hot will kill it as how how will cause instabilities. Not that it is a good thing, but it is kinda amazing sometimes when you think about it.

I'm about in between, 2. GLD said:. Joined Mar 25, Messages 1, 0. I don't think there is a safe temp. It's inacurate.I have tried just about everything i can think of, but i am at a loss for why my processor is getting so hot. I have the brisbane 3.

I am using a Zalman a heatsink with arctic silver thermal grease, and an Abit AN52 motherboard. All report about the same. I did order a mm intake fan for the front of the case, and i know that will help but it wont be enough certainly no house fan that can blow itself over on max settings if its not propped up. AMD Power Monitor shows each core at 1. No pain or discomfort whatsoever, although it is warm. Btw, when i installed my heatsink, i used the blob method as shown on Arctic Silver's website, although to get the clip down on to the retention frame i had to tilt the heatsink after it had already touched the grease to get the clip in place, but once i got it on there it is no longer tilted of course, and as far as i can tell firmly and evenly seated on the cpu.

I did this once when i first got it, saw the alarming temperatures, and redid it a few days later. Not sure if this could have caused air bubbles Airflow through the case is very important as is having a really good CPU cooler.

The temperature threshhold for these processors is 62C. When you exceed this temperature, it is likely your system will shut down to prevent damage to your CPU.

I ran the X2 for almost a year, under load, this chip never ran lower than 60C using high end CPU coolers. When it comes to using and applying thermal paste to the CPU between the CPU and Heatsink base plate, it is best to apply a thin line across one edge of the CPU and then using a firm steady stroke, spread the paste evenly across the entire CPU chip. Using the blob method can cause a too thick layer to be applied which will actually trap heat in the CPU leading to damage.

Depending on the size of your computer case, you might consider either of these two following CPU coolers when using either of these processors:. While this cooler is a royal pain to install, once you do have it installed with thermal paste properly applied below the plate, it lowered my CPU temperatures by at least 10 degrees and my CPU rarely runs higher than 50C even under extreme loads.

You should not have to do anything in the BIOS, it should adjust everything accordingly. Your power supply should have no problem with the few extra watts. Thanks, Chris. Answer Save. Moderators online. The initial versions are based on the E-stepping model of the Athlon 64 and, depending on the model, have either or KB of L2 Cache per core. The primary benefit of dual-core processors like the Athlon 64 X2 over single-core processors is their ability to process more software threads at the same time. The ability of processors to execute multiple threads simultaneously is called thread-level parallelism TLP.

By placing two cores on the same die, the X2 effectively doubles the TLP over a single-core Athlon 64 of the same speed. The need for TLP processing capability is dependent on the situation to a great degree, and certain situations benefit from it far more than others. Certain programs are currently written for only one thread, and are therefore unable to utilize the processing power of the second core. Programs often written with multiple threads and capable of utilizing dual-cores include many music and video encoding applications, and especially professional rendering programs.

These applications can realize almost twice the performance of a single-core Athlon 64 of the same specifications. Multi-tasking also runs a sizable number of threads; intense multi-tasking scenarios have actually shown improvements of considerably more than two times.

In the consumer segment of the market as well, the X2 improves upon the performance of the original Athlon 64, especially for multi-threaded software applications. Having two cores, the Athlon 64 X2 has an increased number of transistors. As a result, a larger area of silicon must be defect free. These size requirements necessitate a more complex fabrication processwhich further adds to the production of fewer functional processors per single silicon wafer.

This lower yield makes the X2 more expensive to produce than the single-core processor. CPU features table. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Further information: Multi-core computing.
